Challenge
To position the Private Banking Awards as a true leader in its space
while increasing advertising spend, visits to the website and subscriptions.
Solution
To distribute the results of the annual Banking and Wealth
In December 2007, just two months prior to the
Private Banking Awards 2008, Euromoney employed
the services of Cognito to raise the profile of
the Private Banking Awards and its annual private
banking survey.
Having never used PR to promote its events, it was
essential for Euromoney to gain a clear understanding
of the processes necessary to deliver the desired
results. After meeting with several agencies,
Euromoney selected Cognito. Alex Kyriakidis,
Marketing Manager, Euromoney, comments: “We
were fully aware of the successful program
implemented by Cognito to raise the profile of the
Financial News Awards which was a huge plus.
Cognito is a strong fit with our business model and
it was clear from the outset that they knew what
had to be done to raise the profile of the
Private Banking Awards.”
In order to raise the profile of the awards,
Cognito distributed the results of the
Banking and Wealth Management survey
which generated responses from 400 private
banking and wealth management institutions
in over 50 countries. The survey, which
among other questions, asked private banks
to identify the companies they admire as the
top providers of both competitive
and non-competitive services,
encompassed the big players as well as the niche and
local players. It is considered a peers’ poll.
Prior to distributing the results of the survey, Cognito
pre-selected a media list targeting the business and
trade press in the UK as well as specific banking and
wealth management titles globally. The results were
published on 8th January 2008 in a press release
entitled ‘Euromoney Private Banking Survey Reveals
Emerging Markets Surge Ahead’.

There was a great amount of interest in the survey
findings, which ultimately resulted in interviews with
and features in BBC Business Brief on BBC News 24,
CNBC’s Power Lunch Europe, BBC Radio 4, Business
Today, Russia Today and Valor (Braz). Euromoney
Private Banking Awards were also featured in
Handelsblatt and The Wealth Briefing.
James Merrington, Senior Group Marketing
Manager, Euromoney, comments: “Cognito
really did help raise the profile of the awards,
and the Banking and Wealth Management
survey, which is now in its fifth year, has
been well-publicised. We were initially
sceptical about the value of PR in relation
to the awards, but we have seen the impact
it can have. We look forward to working
with Cognito to raise the profile of
future events.”
