LONDON, 20 August 2014 - Nik Ekholm has joined Cognito, the specialist communications agency for the financial services industry, as a director to lead the development of its asset management practice internationally. Based in London and reporting to EMEA MD Andrew Marshall, Nik will also have a broader role in providing strategic advice and helping to plan and execute communications programmes for Cognito’s growing range of major financial services clients.

Previously Nik has been Head of International PR at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Head of PR at Schroders and Senior Associate Director at Hill & Knowlton. He studied at the Stockholm School of Economics and the Universidad de Salamanca, and started his communications career at Sweden’s OM Stockholm.

Tom Coombes, founder and CEO of Cognito commented: “We’re delighted that Nik has joined Cognito, bringing with him highly relevant expertise both in-house at several leading institutional managers, and also agency-side.

“Cognito has worked for asset managers, including private equity and hedge funds, for more than a decade, but it’s clearly still a growth area for us. As Cognito continues to expand – geographically and in service capabilities - we are now seeing increasing opportunities from the buyside, and Nik will help us capitalise fully on this. We’re finding that many asset managers can’t find the right mix of investment understanding, global media delivery, and writing, content and planning skills - so we see a gap that we’ll be seeking to fill.”

Nik Ekholm said: “The world of asset management is changing rapidly at the moment. Pension reform, the volatile economic climate, regulatory change and the increased importance of technology are only a few of the factors that demand a more strategic approach to communications. Managers of asset management businesses now need much more specific communications advice that is rooted in the business and issues they face.

“I look forward to adding my experience to the highly credible offer that Cognito can bring to asset management communications, with its deep understanding of many issues of key relevance to asset managers. In addition, Cognito’s analytics and research capabilities, the breadth of its marketing services and its social media capabilities provide further value to clients.”

Nik will be working closely alongside others in the firm’s senior team with a buyside focus, including Tim Williamson, MD of Cognito Asia in Singapore, and Binna Kim, MD of Cognito NY. Nik can be contacted on
