Rowan Benecke is President, U.S., for Cognito and a member of Cognito’s Global Executive Team, where he partners with regional leaders on agency-wide initiatives around the world. Rowan has more than 25 years of experience developing strategic communications campaigns for technology, financial services and consumer brands in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and the United States.

Rowan specializes in working with executive leadership teams at innovative companies to create integrated programs that build brand loyalty, protect corporate reputation and motivate audiences into desired results. His international management and consulting experience spans across strategic business planning, key account management and developing high-performance teams.

He has broad expertise working across of established and emerging brands around the world, with a strong focus on companies and professional services firms offering technology solutions within their sectors.  Some examples of his client work include American Express, EY, Cisco, Facebook, Huawei, IBM, Intel, Motorola, Oracle, PayPal, Stripe, Qualcomm and T-Mobile.  

Throughout his career, Rowan has led account services teams to develop and execute award-winning campaigns for several of his clients. These include winning “Brand Campaign of the Year” and “Best Business-to-Business Campaign of the Year” for British Airways, “Campaign of the Year” and “Corporate Branding Campaign of the Year” for Cisco Systems, and “Employee Communications Campaign of the Year” for Xerox. Rowan has also won individual awards for “Thought Leadership in PR,” was named among the “100 Most Influential Tech Agency PR Executives Globally” and has been recognized with an Honorable Mention as “PR Professional of the Year.”

Prior to joining Cognito, Rowan was Chief Growth Officer for Ruder Finn and was previously Global Technology Practice Chair for Burson-Marsteller. He’s also held executive management positions at Edelman, Text100, WE Communications and Zeno Group. Having held agency leadership roles in Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle in the US, and abroad in Hong Kong, New Delhi, Madrid and Sydney, Rowan is now based in New York City.
